Education
Safety Programs Safety & Maintenance Council (SMC) – Our Safety and Maintenance Council (SMC) works hard to make sure our members stay up to date on key topics via SMC meetings, scale visits, DOT and NATMI courses throughout the year. They also recognize safety the following ways: Annual Truck Driving and Technician Competition, Driver of the Month/Year, Technician of the Quarter, Master Truck Driver Award, Annual Carrier Awards Program, Safety Professional of the Year, and the Maintenance Professional of the Year.
Distracted Driving Education – The IMTA hosts educational awareness for high school students and the motoring public by using the funds from sales of our specialty “Put the Phone Down” License Plate. Support this effort by purchasing one!

Advocacy – (Legislative and Regulatory) – We work at both the State and Federal Level. Some recent accomplishments include:
7% sales tax on diesel fuel eliminated for private carriers
A proposed $8.75 trailer registration renewal fee was killed
Removed the 4 point assessment on a driver’s CDL for overweight citations
Tractor-trailers now have the right of way in roundabouts
Reduced the proposed IRP registration fee increase of 50% to 25%. This is an apportioned fee.
Achieved Governor Holcomb’s commitment to not toll existing roadways while he is Governor of Indiana.
