GOLD CLUB MEMBERS contribute additional funds towards the betterment of the IMTA and the trucking industry. The funds received supports initiatives that give back to the membership and would not otherwise be possible.  One of these initiatives is the Kelley School of Business annual scholarship program.  Each year one student is chosen to continue their education in the Transportation and Logistics Field and a special presentation is held to honor their achievements.  Gold Club members are recognized on the IMTA website, with a link to their website, and at our annual conference.

Please contact Barbara Smithers at barbara@intrucking.org if you would like us to consider donating to additional scholarship funds for students in transportation, including truck drivers and technicians.

FROM THE 2021 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT...

“Dear Indiana Motor Truck Association,

First, I’d like to express how appreciative I am of this scholarship. Having financed most of my college expenses, I’m thankful and aware of how much a large amount can help alleviate stress and concern around tuition each semester. Especially given the current climate around economics, I notice of how generous such a scholarship is for you to give to me.

To explain myself, my name is Alejandra Maury Cruz Meyer. I grew up originally in Piedras Negras, a small town on the border between Mexico and Texas. I moved to Mexico City and lived there for most of my adolescent life. After the opportunity to study here at a different school, I eventually decided that IUPUI and Kelley were the best opportunity for me and my future career. Having always had an interest in solving problems and trying to streamline my own personal schedule for efficiencies, I found supply chain management to be the ideal major to study. I also was lucky enough to meet my husband while here. He too has an interest in Supply Chain, having worked at Amazon and now owning his own logistics company.

As I touched on earlier, this scholarship does a great deal to alleviate the concern for the tuition cost this upcoming Fall semester 2021. My father and I fund my college education, and in the current turmoil, every little bit helps alleviate the concerns that we have on gathering my international tuition fees. This also allows me to consider different options for a summer internship, as the extra money allows me to take a more educational internship that pays less without worrying about affording tuition.

Following graduation, I hope to obtain a job in a logistics company ideally. My husband’s grandfather owned a trucking company here in Indiana, and my husband owns a company focusing on warehousing and distribution of materials, so my conversations have been more about the trucking and logistics industry more than most other supply chain related careers. I believe that in an ever increasingly online marketplace, logistics and trucking especially here in Indiana will become the largest jobs in the state. Indiana has always been a crossroads state, but I believe that given you can travel 2 days from Indiana almost anywhere in the country, it places the state and therefore my career in a great position for rapid growth.

I’d like to reiterate my appreciation for the scholarship. It is very generous and very much appreciated.

Thanks Again,
Alejandra Maury Cruz Meyer”
