Future Leaders Partner with Newly Formed Trucking Workforce Association

PRESS RELEASE
The Future Leaders of Indiana (FLI), a council within the Indiana Motor Truck Association (IMTA), has partnered with the newly formed trucking industry workforce association, Next Generation (NextGen) in Trucking Association to help solve the long-standing workforce issues the industry has faced for many years. The council is comprised of both emerging leaders and leaders with fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a passion to serve the trucking industry.

“The FLI council heard about NextGen, and we immediately wanted to help. It’s all about being a part of an initiative bigger than ourselves and helping to create awareness of the opportunities within our great industry,” said Garrett Knollman, Chairman of Future Leaders of Indiana council and CEO of Transmark Logistics.

NextGen is a non-profit trade association with the mission to promote trucking as a positive career field; create programs that encourage Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Diesel Technician training of our nation’s youth; and connect them to training and employment opportunities. The organization’s volunteer leadership consists of industry professionals who are passionate about trucking, career technical education, and providing our emerging workforce with a pathway to well-paying and rewarding careers. Membership consists of industry stakeholders who share our mission: students, teachers, schools, business professionals, partners, and sponsors. “Founded in 2020, NextGen is looking for industry support and assistance in developing the next generation in trucking,” said Lindsey Trent, Customer and Business Development Manager of Ryder and Co-Founder and President of NextGen. Dave Dein, CDL Instructor at Patterson High School in Patterson, California, and Co-Founder of NextGen put his vision into action by creating one of the nation’s first high school truck driving programs. He is now turning his efforts to assisting high schools across the country in implementing the turn-key curriculum he developed. “We are excited and hopeful to see CDL training offered to every student across the United States. It starts with education and training to help the trucking industry continue moving America forward.”, said Dave.

Two trucking associations, including an Indiana based group, have forged an alliance to help solve a workforce shortage in the trucking industry by engaging high school students. The Future Leaders of Indiana, a council within the Indiana Motor Truck Association, is partnering with Next Generation in Trucking Association. NextGen is a newly formed, nonprofit trade association with the mission to promote trucking as a positive career field.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, NextGen co-founder Lindsey Trent explained trucking is not often part of career programs taught at high school level.
“There's a lot of other industries represented in career technical education, like construction and woodworking, welding, automotive technology, but the trucking industry is really underrepresented,” said Trent. “There are huge needs within the trucking industry for skilled workers. But there isn’t enough outlets for young people to learn about the trucking industry.” ... Continue Reading Here

FLI Member Testimonial

""I attend FLI events to keep my finger on the pulse of what is going on in the trucking world outside of what I see day to day.  To gain a different perspective and or just see trucking through some else's eyes via their stories and experiences. The new direction, focus, and efforts are noticed and appreciated.  I am looking forward to future events."  - Braun Winchester, Sales & Leasing Consultant, General Truck Sales
