o Membership driven – All IMTA members have an opportunity to actively participate in committees and councils. **Check out our Future Leaders of Indiana Council that is focused on furthering the professional development of its membership through education, mentorship and leadership opportunities while continuing to grow and develop the IMTA membership.
o Safety Programs – Our Safety and Maintenance Council works hard to make sure our members stay up to date on key topics. They also plan events that recognize driver safety: Annual Truck Driving and Technician Competition, Driver of the Month/Year, Master Truck Driver Award, Annual Carrier Awards Program.
o Distracted Driving Education – The IMTA hosts educational awareness for the motoring public by using the funds from sales of our specialty “Trucks Move Indiana” License Plate. Support this effort by purchasing one!

• Advocacy – (Legislative and Regulatory) – Online updates provided on website. At both the State and Federal Level. Some past accomplishments include:
o Helped to create the One Stop Shop in Indiana which offers most services for trucking under one roof.
o Prohibit motor carrier transportation contracts requiring carrier to indemnify shipper for damages resulting from the shipper’s negligence, willful acts, or omissions.
o Allow electronic permitting and registration.
o Created permanent semi- trailer plates.
o Assisted with passage of Major Moves Project.
o Language implementing a ban on “texting while driving” was managed such that the “fixed” communication devices in commercial vehicles are exempt.
o Successfully partnered with the INDOT to secure nearly $6.7M in federal grant dollars, with $2.8M being earmarked for the addition of 80 new truck parking spaces along Interstate 70.

• Communications – Each week IMTA distributes a newsletter with information important to our association and industry. We also publish a membership directory and an annual yearbook. All of these are excellent, economical ways for companies to advertise and reach their targeted audience.
